SPAN 355 - Masterworks of Spanish American Literature to 1850

Study of selected works of Spanish American literature, from the Colonial period through the mid-19th century.

Prerequisite(s): SPAN 350 .

Student Learning Outcomes (if available):
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to analyze the subcultures, political contexts, cultural differences, and such issues as oppression within the history of early Spanish America.
2. Students will be able to articulate connections the between colonial past and contemporary society.
3. Students will be able to evaluate the ways in which a variety of historical conflicts influence and inform contemporary global problems and affect their current situation.
4. Students will be able to examine the colonial relationship between Europeans and indigenous subjects and address such issues as race, class, gender, and national identity.
