SPAN 357 - Masterworks of Chicano/U.S. Latino Literature

Study of selected works of Chicano/U.S. Latino contemporary literature. Taught in Spanish. (Diversity course.)

Prerequisite(s): SPAN 350 .

Student Learning Outcomes (if available):
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to identify key literary figures and movements relevant to the course content.
2. Students will be able to identify the complex elements that are significant to the Chicana/o and Latina/o experience in the United States: history, values, politics, social class, customs, and practices.
3. Students will be able to describe the perceptions, viewpoints, and life experiences of Chicana/o and Latina/o people in the United States by examining narratives that center on the experiences of members of this population.
4. Students will be able to articulate an awareness of some of the diversity issues relevant to the content: race, ethnicity, gender, social class, religion, sexual identity, national origin, and others.
5. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the history, customs, world views, and other cultural markers of Chicana/o and Latina/o people in the United States.
6. Students will be able to critically analyze  the texts explored in the course.
