SW 462 - Lesbian and Gay Lives (3 units)
Examines disciplinary perspectives used in understanding the experience of homosexual people in America. Includes psychosocial research, literature, film, historical writing and public policy portrayals. (General Capstone and Diversity course.)
Prerequisite(s): CH 201 or CH 202 or CH 203 ; ENG 102 ; junior or senior standing.

Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to identify contributions by queers within select academic disciplines.
2. Students will be able to analyze the relationships between societal institutions and LGBT people.
3. Students will be able to explain the historical role of prejudice against LGBT people.
4. Students will be able to trace the development of public policies regarding the persecution and protection of queer persons.
5. Students will be able to critique theoretical explanations of the origin and development of sexual orientation and gender identity.
6. Students will be able to identify the psychological effects of homophobia, transphobia, heterosexism, and heteronormativity.
7. Students will be able to analyze the causes of discrimination and prejudice in relation to LGBT people.
