WMST 430 - Gender, Literature and the Arts (3 units) Examines cultural representations of gender and gender relations through world literatures, philosophy, musical traditions, and fine and applied arts. Maximum of 9 credits. (General Capstone course.)
Prerequisite(s): CH 201 or CH 202 or CH 203 ; ENG 102 ; and junior or senior standing.
Units of Lecture: 3 General Capstone Course, Diversity Course Offered Every Fall Student Learning Outcomes (if available): Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to demonstrate familiarity with major concepts in and approaches to studies of gender through writing assignments. 2. Students will be able to develop ways to think about the form and content of art, visual, and written culture. 3. Students will be able to sharpen critical skills in reading, discussing, and writing about how gender theory intersects with art, literature, and film. 4. Students will be able to examine how art and literature shape, present, and interrogate gender. 5. Students will be able to respond to course material in a variety of ways that demonstrate communication competencies in writing and other media.
