HIST 403A - Tourism, Imperialism, and Culture (3 units) Explores the interrelated themes of tourism, imperialism, and culture. Considers how cultural representations foster a tourism industry and how tourism encourages and builds on imperial power.
Prerequisite(s): CH 201 or CH 202 or CH 203 ; ENG 102 ; junior or senior standing.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered Every Fall - Odd Years Student Learning Outcomes (if available): Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to demonstrate, by means of discussion, responses or essays, their ability to analyze and interpret primary sources in different forms, including documents, film, popular media, photographs, and autobiography. 2. Students will be able to demonstrate, by means of discussion, responses or essays, their ability to analyze and interpret primary sources in different forms, including documents, film, popular media, photographs, and autobiography. 3. Students will be able to demonstrate, by means of discussion, responses or essays, their ability to critically read secondary sources from multiple disciplines and identify the argument, main points, and use of evidence. 4. Students will be able to demonstrate, by means of discussion, responses or essays, their ability to form an original historical argument and logically support it with evidence from primary and secondary sources.
