BCH 617 - Metabolic Regulation (3 units) In-depth examination of metabolism and regulation of carbohydrates, lipids, isoprenoids, amino acids, relationship of metabolism to the life processes of the whole organism.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to articulate a comprehensive understanding of intermediary metabolism and the interconnectedness of anabolic and catabolic processes. 2. Students will be able to describe the post-translational mechanisms used to modulate enzymatic activity. 3. Students will be able to describe common mechanistic themes in enzyme catalysis. 4. Students will be able to relate human diseases to specific metabolic defects. 5. Students will be able to articulate an understanding of hormone signal transduction pathways and their relationship to metabolic regulation in humans.
