CEP 636 - Cognitive Learning (3 units) An examination of cognitive theories, research, and issues and their relationship to educational practice.
Units of Lecture: 3 Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to define what is involved by the perspective “cognitive learning”. 2. Students will be able to describe the history and forces that contributed to the development of the perspective of cognitive learning. 3. Students will be able to identify and describe the major theories that influence teaching and learning. 4. Students will be able to demonstrate awareness of cognitive factors that influence learning, including the characteristics of individual learners. 5. Students will be able to demonstrate increased awareness of developments in neurological research that relate to learning and adjustment. 6. Students will be able to recognize the significance of “meaning” in the learning process. 7. Students will be able to describe and be familiar with major research concerning cognitive learning and educational practice. 8. Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the relationship of certain models of motivation and learning. 9. Students will be able to apply certain strategies to both classroom and individual student learning. 10. Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the relationship of certain cognitive principles to educational technology. 11. Students will be able to apply strategies that enhance reflective and creative thinking. 12. Students will be able to recognize cultural factors in learning.
