CHS 796 - MPH Capstone (1 to 3 units) MPH professional paper, final presentation and professional development. Required of all MPH students. This course is crosslisted with MED 695 for medical students.
Prerequisite(s): CHS 798 .
Offered: Every Spring Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to summarize epidemiologic information for lay and professional audiences. 2. Students will be able to develop effective written and oral skills for communicating with different audiences in the context of professional and public health activities. 3. Students will be able to apply basic principles of ethical analysis (e.g. the Public Health Code of Ethics, human rights framework, other moral theories) to issues of public health practice and policy. 4. Students will be able to apply evidence-based principles and scientific knowledge base to critical evaluation and decision-making in public health. 5. Students will be able to assess determinants of health and disease using an ecological framework. 6. Students will be able to apply a definition of public health that captures the unique characteristics of the field (e.g., population-focused, community-oriented, prevention-motivated and rooted in social justice) and how these contribute to professional practice. 7. Students will be able to propose a commitment to lifelong learning and professional service including active participation in professional organizations.
