Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to research current event topics to locate and select evidence to construct a public speech.
2. Students will be able to organize evidence appropriate for speech type with outline to prepare informative and persuasive public speeches.
3. Students will be able to focus the purpose of a speech through articulating a thesis and developing the introduction, body, and conclusion of the speech.
4. Students will be able to deliver extemporaneous informative and persuasive speeches, including verbal citation of sources.
5. Students will be able to construct and use appropriate visual support and nonverbal elements as part of the delivery of a public speech.
6. Students will be able to identify public speaking concepts including delivery types, organizational arrangements, persuasive appeal types, audience types, speaking ethics, and reasoning structures.
7. Students will be able to display confidence and openness to presenting ideas to others through practicing presenting public speeches.
