EDSC 404 - Secondary Pedagogy II (3 units) General methods in the high school, including practicum.
Prerequisite(s): EDSC 321 ; admission to a secondary education program.
Units of Lecture: 2 Units of Laboratory/Studio: 1 Offered: Every Fall Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to describe and assess the characteristics of high school students by using the scenario from chapter two and writing a one page paper that emphasizes Piaget’s cognitive development of a high school student. 2. Students will be able to reflect on ones own efficacy in the planning and teaching of lessons designed for high school students by designing either a teacher directed or a cooperative learning plan that implements non-traditional methods of assessment. 3. Students will be able to describe means by which a high school teacher can create a classroom-learning environment through the use of 21st Century Skills writing a two page paper that explains and reflects on how technology is used in the practicum classroom. 4. Students will be able to develop assessments that could be used in a high school classroom by creating a rubric within your content area and using this instrument to analyze a set of student work in the high school practicum.
