EDSC 463 - Teaching Secondary Science

Content and methods in teaching secondary science with emphasis on scientific literacy, inquiry, demonstrations, full class investigations, instructional technology and the Science Technology and Society philosophy.

Prerequisite(s): EDSC 321 ; admission to a secondary education program.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to demonstrate a variety of teaching strategies and skills appropiate to the science standards, your class goals, the needs of society, and the diverse contemporary students you will teach.
2. Students will be able to develop effective lesson plans to support the development of science knowledge and practices in secondary students using contemporary theories on how students learn.
3. Students will be able to use the NGSS and the NVACSS as a guide to determine the curriculum in the science courses you will teach.
