EDSP 667 - Teaching Students with Intellectual Disabilities (3 units) Curriculum development and methods of teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. Includes practicum experience with a student.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall - Odd Years Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to develop detailed instructional plans for individuals with severe disabilities in various curriculum domains ensuring that these plans embed basic skills such as communication, social, and motor skills into natural routines and activities. 2. Students will be able to implement instructional plans and demonstrate competence in systematic instruction through the use of prompting procedures and feedback procedures. 3. Students will be able to apply knowledge related to developing academic materials for students with severe disabilities who are different levels of symbol understanding (e.g., objects, photos, line drawings). 4. Students will be able to plan and teach to promote generalization and maintenance of acquired skills.
