EDSP 668 - Augmentative/Alternative Communication (3 units) Assessing, designing, and implementing augmentative communication programs for individuals with severe communication impairments.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall - Even Years Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to understand and contribute to the AAC assessment process and involve family members / care providers in this process in meaningful ways. 2. Students will be able to demonstrate awareness of high-tech, mid-tech, low- tech, and no-tech AAC options and appropriately select AAC options based on student characteristics and need. 3. Students will be able to develop AAC solutions that (a) are appropriate for the individual’s chronological age, (b) address symbol understanding of the individual, (c) are functional, and (d) are useful across settings. 4. Students will be able to implement functional communication instruction that is infused within natural routines across settings, team members, and peers.
