Selected subjects in American literature and culture, emphasizing pluralism and cultural diversity. Designed for non-English majors.

Prerequisite(s): CH 202 ; CH 203 .

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to use writing as a tool for communicating about, organizing, and understanding literary readings.
2. Students will be able to relate literary works to their cultural or historical contexts.
3. Students will be able to describe different possible interpretations of a given work of literature.
4. Students will be able to analyze texts with attention to thematic content and formal or stylistic choices.
5. Students will be able to distinguish and discuss the features of different genres and their conventions.
6. Students will be able to articulate patterns and problems in American literature and culture, specifically those related to pluralism and diversity.
