ENG 462D - American Poetry, 1865-1945 (3 units) Close study of selected American poets working between the Civil War and World War II, including Frost, Eliot, Williams, Hughes, and Moore.
Prerequisite(s): ENG 303 or Junior standing.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall - Even Years Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to write lucid, well-constructed arguments analyzing and interpreting texts. 2. Students will be able to analyze a literary work in its cultural and historical contexts. 3. Students will be able to articulate the premises and assumptions of different critical approaches and apply them to poems using literary-critical vocabulary. 4. Students will be able to evaluate the genre-specific features of modern American poetry.
