ENG 739 - Renaissance Through Modern Rhetoric

Rhetorical theory and practice from the Renaissance to the modern era.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to analyze primary rhetorical texts from the Renaissance through the Scottish Enlightenment.
2. Students will be able to identify how these canonical rhetorical texts engage with the historical, political, and economic moments of their production.
3. Students will be able to describe the basic issues and methodologies of historical research in rhetorical studies, particularly within these periods.
4. Students will be able to produce scholarship that engages contemporary theorists about the relevance of these primary texts and the rhetorical tradition they forge.
