HDFS 204 - Child Guidance and Parenting (3 units) Guiding the behavior of children from infancy through adolescence using child development principles appropriate for teachers, parents, and others working with children.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to evaluate theories of child development and explain different child caregiving practices using different developmental theories. 2. Students will be able to analyze observed parenting interactions in the real world, apply knowledge regarding different parenting styles, and explain impacts of each parenting style on child development. 3. Students will be able to critically analyze parenting practice information provided through media by comparing it to the research-based knowledge regarding parenting. 4. Students will be able to examine possible different guidance and discipline/punishment methods in given parenting/teaching situations and identify appropriate guidance methods for the situation.
