HIST 665C - Modern Ireland and National Identity (3 units)
Interdisciplinary analysis of Ireland and the Anglo-Irish conflict from 1600 to the present, emphasizing ethnic conflict with Ireland and understanding Ireland from the perspective of theories of nationalism.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to analyze the intertwined class, ethnic, and religious conflicts that have produced generations of violence and sectarianism within Ireland.
2. Students will be able to analyze Irish nationalism in the broader context of Irish culture, the historical relationship between Britain and Ireland, and the British Empire.
3. Students will be able to analyze and synthesize primary, secondary, and cultural sources.
4. Students will be able to find and use historical scholarship and sources to answer a research question.
5. Students will be able to present ideas in a clear and persuasive manner both orally and in writing.
