HIST 688 - Creating North American Landscapes (3 units) An examination of how distinctive American landscapes, places, and spaces are created and then transformed by human action through time. (GEOG 688 and HIST 688 are cross-listed; credit may be earned in one of the two.)
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall - Even Years Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to integrate skills of written, oral, and visual communication to pose and answer an informed question about the origins and significance of the North American landscape. 2. Students will be able to describe the ways that landscape is both a physical and a cultural creation. 3. Students will be able to explain the regional variations in the North American landscape. 4. Students will be able to discern national and international influences in the local landscape. 5. Students will be able to analyze and synthesize the impact of national political, social, and economic systems on the local landscape.
