IS 482 - Data Resource Management (3 units) Concepts, issues and techniques in managing organizational data resources including designing, implementing, accessing and managing data warehouses, knowledge management systems and organizational memory systems.
Prerequisite(s): IS 475 /IS 675 ; Business major or minor.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to identify and define the vocabulary, concepts and components of business intelligence and big data. 2. Students will be able to describe the objectives and design goals of a transaction database versus a data warehouse. 3. Students will be able to identify the business metrics and decision models required to support organizational decision making. 4. Students will be able to describe the components and architecture of a data warehouse. 5. Students will be able to describe the issues that affect the success and failure of implementing data warehousing and business intelligence applications. 6. Students will be able to identify and describe “good” vs. “bad” information visualization methods. 7. Students will be able to create an information visualization method, such as a dashboard, using computer tools such as Access, Excel and Tableau Software. 8. Students will be able to design and implement a database to support decision making using SQL Server.
