MUS 381 - Methods for Elementary Music Specialist (3 units) Methods, materials and special approaches for teaching elementary classroom instrumental and vocal music, grades K-6.
Prerequisite(s): MUS 300 ; successful completion of Praxis I Core Academic Skills for Educators exam.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall -Even Years Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to sing, play, and teach a body of songs, games, and activities appropriate for children in grades K-6. 2. Students will be able to explain the development of musical skills and concepts in elementary-aged children such as singing, moving, creating, and playing instruments and apply that knowledge to various assignments. 3. Students will be able to create and implement logical, age-appropriate lesson plans intended for use in the elementary music classroom. 4. Students will be able to apply the fundamental approaches of various pedagogies and modes of musical expression to lesson writing and reflections. 5. Students will be able to reflect upon and assess their own and other’s teaching and learning through discussions and assignments.
