MUS 441 - Choral Music Methods (3 units) Organization of choral ensembles in middle schools and high schools; materials, standard choral literature, and rehearsal techniques.
Prerequisite(s): MUS 105 ; successful completion of Praxis I Core Academic Skills for Educators exam. Corequisite(s): Enrollment in Concert Choir, Symphonic Choir, or Chamber Chorale.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall - Even Years Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to sing and teach a variety of warm ups, songs, pieces, and activities appropriate for a choral music program between grades 6-12. 2. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the multiple facets of a choral program (e.g. repertoire selection, rehearsing, designing warm ups, concert programming, and handbooks) through discussions, writing assignments, and projects. 3. Students will be able to create and implement clearly written, age-appropriate lesson plans intended for use in the choral classroom. 4. Students will be able to apply best practices for this specialty to lesson writing, teaching, and reflection. 5. Students will be able to reflect upon and assess their own and other’s teaching and learning through discussions and assignments.
