NURS 317 - Nursing Care of the Individual I: Theory (3 units) CO12 The art and science of nursing focused on professional values, critical thinking, care provider role, clinical management, communication and legal and ethical aspects.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Nursing major.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall and Spring Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to utilize knowledge from the arts, humanities, and sciences in the care of individuals from diverse backgrounds. 2. Students will be able to examine and clarify professional values and their ethical implications for the roles of the professional nurse (CO12). 3. Students will be able to discuss the role of critical thinking in the clinical management of clients. 4. Students will be able to demonstrate critical thinking in assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of nursing care for individuals. 5. Students will be able to discuss the nurse’s care provider role in health and illness of the individual. 6. Students will be able to discuss the nurse’s role in the physical, cognitive, social and emotional functional ability of the individual, with particular attention to changes due to aging. 7. Students will be able to explain the legal concepts of standards of care and scope of practice (CO12).
