NURS 716 - Advanced Ambulatory Pharmacy

Reviews drug therapy in ambulatory practice. Legal aspects of prescribing, dispensing, sampling in primary care are addressed. Variable credit dependent on MSN track of enrollment.

Prerequisite(s): NURS 717 ; admission to MSN program.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of basic principles and of pharmacology and pharmacotherapy in the advanced nursing practice role.
2. Students will be able to identify categories of medications, especially those commonly prescribed by the nurse practitioner.
3. Students will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of medications by category.
4. Students will be able to define the stages of new drug development, including drug legislation.
5. Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to use and evaluate drug information literature.
