PHIL 640 - Theory of Knowledge (3 units)
Problems concerning the nature and types of knowledge and inquiry in relation to belief, certainty, truth, justification, language, social context, and human biology and psychology.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to state a thesis about a central problem in the theory of knowledge, and provide evidence and argument (including replies to counter-arguments) in its defense.
2. Students will be able to explain and interpret the ideas associated with theories in the contemporary literature in the theory of knowledge.
3. Students will be able to distinguish better and worse reasoning, and recognize conceptual relationships and patterns of inference (in contemporary philosophical theories of knowledge).
4. Students will be able to show what is at stake in abstract debates in the theory of knowledge, and indicate how positions in these debates might have practical implications.
