PSY 447 - Geropsychology: Field Experience (3 units) Supervised experience in community agencies with a focus on psychological approaches to working with older people.

Prerequisite(s): PSY 442 .
Units of Internship/Practicum: 3 Offered: Every Fall and Spring Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to demonstrate ability to effectively work with those affected by memory disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and detect how these disorders impact the behavior of older adults. 2. Students will be able to engage in effective communication with older adults with dementia. 3. Students will be able to document observations of during interactions with older adults with memory disorders. 4. Students will be able to facilitate pleasant experiences that result in positive effects on the mood and behavior of older adults with memory disorders. 5. Students will be able to critically evaluate the ethical issues that may arise in providing services to older adults (e.g., protection of privacy, confidentiality, informed consent, etc.) and elder abuse reporting requirements for psychologists.
