SW 624 - Social Work Methods with Couples and Families (3 units) One of a four course sequence emphasizing the application of skills knowledge and values to social work practice. Focuses on competent intervention with couples and families.
Corequisite(s): SW 620 .
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to develop and maintain healthy professional boundaries in all professional interactions. 2. Students will be able to apply models of ethical reasoning to explore complex ethical dilemmas in practice. 3. Students will be able to examine how personal beliefs and cultural practices in relation to families shape our understandings and interventions with clients. 4. Students will be able to prepare accurate and non-biased written assessments, reports, caseplans and documentation. 5. Students will be able to apply the principles of cultural humility to build rapport, conduct thorougassessments and identify cultural-appropriate interventions with diverse client groups. 6. Students will be able to identify evidence-based practices for work with couples and families. 7. Students will be able to support assessments, caseplans and intervention strategies with empirical evidence. 8. Students will be able to identify theoretical assumptions influencing understandings of families.
