PAS 750 - Medically Underserved Populations Clerkship (5 units)
Second-year PA students will experience evaluating and treating patients at high risk for poor health outcomes due to an inability to access the necessary resources in either a rural or urban underserved system.
Units of Internship/Practicum: 5
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to identify health risks, community resources, and referral patterns for population(s) served by the specific clinic/setting.
2. Students will be able to describe the services available in the community or immediate area for clients in need of social service assistance.
3. Students will be able to gather information, formulate differential diagnoses, and propose plans for the initial evaluation and management of patients with common primary care presentations.
4. Students will be able to develop evidence-based health promotion/disease prevention plans for patients of any age or gender.
5. Students will be able to apply knowledge and skills learned throughout the didactic year to demonstrate competency in advanced elicitation of history, communication, physical examination, and critical thinking skills.
