PAS 661 - Behavioral Medicine and Human Development

(2 units)
This course series combines lecture, panel discussions, simulated and real patient encounters to introduce students to human development and biopsychosocial health issues commonly seen in primary care.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to recognize biological, psychological, and sociological problems that motivate patients to seek medical care.
2. Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively manage potentially stressful situations with difficult patients.
3. Students will be able to demonstrate skill in motivational interviewing, chronic mental illness interviewing, and initiating psychiatric diagnoses.
4. Students will be able to describe issues related to the aging process and how to recognize signs of elder abuse.
