EDES 413 - Field-Based Teaching and Assessment in Elementary Schools (3 units) Field-based course with a whole class teaching focus concentrating on math and science instruction and whole class assessment using student learning samples.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to an elementary education program; EDES 313 ; EDEL 433 ; EDEL 443 .

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. plan, develop, and teach whole-class, standards-based lessons in math and science using the Common Core Mathematics Standards and the Nevada Science Standards in order to support student learning of mathematics and science. 2. plan, develop, and teach whole-class, standards-based lessons in math and science using the Common Core Mathematics Standards and the Nevada Science Standards in order to support student learning of mathematics and science. 3. demonstrate understanding of central concepts and methods for teaching disciplinary structure in a manner that students can understand. 4. demonstrate understanding of how students learn by devoting specific attention to learner development and learning differences. 5. demonstrate awareness of how the learning environment can impact individual and collective learning. 6. critically reflect on and adjust their practice continuously in order to refine their instruction and to continue learning professionally. 7. develop and use assessment to monitor learner progress and to support student growth.
