IS 789 - Information Technology Strategy and Policy (3 units) Strategic techniques for aligning competitive strategies and information technology to achieve organizational goals. The development, implementation and management of technology-oriented policies and plans.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. develop IT strategies that are aligned with the business strategies and direction. 2. discuss and make effective strategic decisions for acquiring information systems through building, buying, or leasing. 3. develop systems implementation plans, as well as identify barriers to implementation. 4. identify factors that influence the effective and ineffective use of technology. 5. apply Porter’s Five-Forces Model and value chain. 6. explain change management and phases of technology assimilation. 7. discuss the role of the CIO and her/his relationship to other C-level executives. 8. apply principles of net-enhanced organizations and mobile computing to strategic information systems.
