CEE 679 - Earthquake Engineering (3 units) Seismic hazards, including plate tectonics, faulting, seismicity, seismometry, strong earthquake motions. Effects of earthquakes on soils, man-made structures. Characteristics of earthquake-resistant structures. (CEE 679 and GE 679 are cross-listed; credit may be earned in one of the two.)

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering. 2. design and conduct experiments, as well as to interpret data. 3. use the techniques, skills, and modern tools necessary for engineering practice. 4. demonstrate understanding of the impact of engineering solutions on global, economic, environmental, and societal context.
