ECON 454 - Economics of Government Regulations (3 units) CO13 Economic analysis of regulatory policy focusing on market and non-market alternatives. Issues include environmental quality, health care, education, advertising, market power, utility and telecommunication deregulation.
Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing; ECON 102 .
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. apply theories of regulation to analyze policy issues. 2. analyze the implications of using willingness-to-pay as a criteria to determine the optimal quantity of social goods. 3. analyze the costs and benefits of alternate strategies for producing social goods. 4. analyze market power issues, and the implications of alternate policies for addressing these issues. 5. write a paper with a clear organizational structure and professional writing style.
