EDRL 451 - Reading and Writing in the Secondary School (3 units) In content fields; sources of difficulties; developmental instruction; techniques for promoting comprehension and vocabulary.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to a Secondary education major.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall and Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify and explain the reading and writing demands of their disciplines. 2. integrate into lessons the instructional strategies and assessments that will engage secondary students in developing disciplinary literacy. 3. identify the literacy needs of linguistically and socio-economically diverse secondary students and plan instruction that meets those needs.
