EDSP 668 - Augmentative/Alternative Communication (3 units)
Assessing, designing, and implementing augmentative communication programs for individuals with severe communication impairments.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. understand and contribute to the AAC assessment process and involve family members / care providers in this process in meaningful ways.
2. demonstrate awareness of high-tech, mid-tech, low- tech, and no-tech AAC options and appropriately select AAC options based on student characteristics and need.
3. develop AAC solutions that (a) are appropriate for the individual’s chronological age, (b) address symbol understanding of the individual, (c) are functional, and (d) are useful across settings.
4. implement functional communication instruction that is infused within natural routines across settings, team members, and peers.
