HIST 385 - Witches, Wars, and Wisdom in the Early Modern Era (3 units)
Political, social, cultural and institutional history of Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries; includes Reformation controversies, social and economic change, popular culture and private life.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate in writing and/or classroom participation a knowledge of the political, social, and cultural history of Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries.
2. analyze and interpret primary source documents in words and images that pertain to the social, political and/or cultural life of early modern Europe.
3. interpret secondary sources and comprehend arguments that pertain to the historiography of early modern Europe.
4. distinguish religious controversies resulting from the Reformation and be able to formulate an overview of popular culture, contemporary interpretations of nature, philosophical debate, and private life.
