HIST 465C - Modern Ireland and National Identity (3 units) CO11, CO13 Interdisciplinary analysis of Ireland and the Anglo-Irish conflict from 1600 to the present, emphasizing ethnic conflict with Ireland and understanding Ireland from the perspective of theories of nationalism.
Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing. Recommended Preparation: CH 202 .

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. analyze the intertwined class, ethnic, and religious conflicts that have produced generations of violence and sectarianism within Ireland. 2. analyze Irish nationalism in the broader context of Irish culture, the historical relationship between Britain and Ireland, and the British Empire. 3. analyze and synthesize primary, secondary, and cultural sources. 4. find and use historical scholarship and sources to answer a research question. 5. present ideas in a clear and persuasive manner both orally and in writing.
