JM 707 - Legal Research (3 units) Legal research for non-lawyers. Comprehensive look at legal resources and their organization and publication. Hands-on training in law library research and computerized research.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. describe and distinguish primary and secondary authorities. 2. locate cases and statutes utilizing appropriate indexes and digests. 3. explain elements of a court decision; brief a case. 4. use proper citation form. 5. shepardize a case. 6. use computerized research to find legal authority via Lexis-Nexis and other databases.
