JOUR 703 - Innovation (3 units) Overview of media communications, media literacy, and our understanding of current practices; model a process for innovation, and explore processes of user-centered brainstorming and prototyping.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify problems with current communication organizations’ designs and practices. 2. model brainstorming as it is practiced at some of the nation’s most respected design firms. 3. produce and refine audience-centered prototypes of new communication products. 4. articulate key concepts about the innovation process, how innovations diffuse, how the brain works, how people learn and why some traditional journalism and strategic communications are counterproductive.
