JOUR 755 - Media Engagement and Innovation (3 units) The role of engagement and innovation in journalism, public relations, and advertising. Overview of media communications, media literacy, and our understanding of current practices. Study examples of community engagement and innovation.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. explain key concepts of the innovation and engagement process. 2. critically evaluate competing theories and practices and assess the value of innovation and engagement in journalism, public relations, and advertising. 3. brainstorm, prototype, strategize, and execute engagement/innovation projects relevant to journalism, public relations, and advertising. 4. identify challenges faced by media organizations and apply engagement/innovation practices to address those challenges. 5. collaborate effectively as part of a team.
