MUS 211 - Sightsinging and Dictation I (1 unit) Solfege and dictation, rhythmic and melodic.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Laboratory/Studio: 1 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. sight-sing basic melodies featuring diatonic and intervallic movement around basic I-IV-V progressions. 2. sight-sing rhythms using quarter, triplet and 16th note rhythms with various mixed meters. 3. sight sing music in multiple parts (duets, trios, chorales, etc.) appropriate to the topics studied and required skill level. 4. accurately take dictation of tonal melodies using mostly major and perfect intervals. 5. accurately take harmonic dictation identifying standard chord progressions built on triads in the major scale. 6. accurately take dictation of rhythms featuring quarter, triplet and 16th note rhythms with various mixed meters. 7. accurately identify and sing specific scales and diatonic modes: Ionian, Aeolian, Harmonic minor and Melodic minor. 8. accurately find errors in rhythm, pitch, harmony, and/or Solfege at the above mentioned skill level.
