1. critically assess specific music examples through actively engaged listening.
2. analyze scores from an historical perspective.
3. articulate how music functions in culture.
4. articulate the ways in which western “art” music has helped shape (and in turn is shaped by) individual and communal senses of self and other.
5. write about music critically, analytically, and historically.
