NRES 100 - Principles of Natural Resources and Environmental Science (3 units) General introduction to issues and topics related to natural resources, environmental sciences, conservation biology and hydrology.
Prerequisite(s): Major in Ecohydrology or Environmental Science or Nevada Teach Secondary Education/Environmental Science or Forest Management & Ecology or Wildlife Ecology & Conservation or Rangeland Ecology & Management.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 2 Units of Laboratory/Studio: 1 Offered: Every Fall and Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. describe the flow of energy and matter through ecosystems; population and community ecology; and the biogeochemical cycles that connect air, water, soil and living organisms. 2. distinguish the basic tenets of environmental ethics and economics; and identify key U.S. environmental policies. 3. explain key components of fisheries, range, forestry and wildlife management. 4. demonstrate basic skills in map interpretation, spreadsheets, graphing and scientific references. 5. list and describe key features of the Truckee River watershed and the Great Basin ecosystem.
