SOC 425 - Research Methods (3 units) CO14 Major techniques and problems encountered in both quantitative and qualitative research in the social sciences.
Prerequisite(s): SOC 101; Junior or Senior standing.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. critically evaluate social-scientific research studies so as to judge the relative validity, or lack thereof, of social-scientific empirical results. 2. articulate an original research question that can be translated into a researchable design. 3. create a complete research proposal including an introduction, literature review, formal statement of research question/hypothesis, research design, hypothetical results, implications, and directions for future research.
