CHS 745 - Advanced Survey Methods in Public Health (3 units) Designed to advanced students’ skill and knowledge of survey methodologies for addressing public health problems.
Prerequisite(s): A Master of Public Health or related degree.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. develop original research hypotheses and research questions that will advance public health knowledge. 2. evaluate, justify, and apply appropriate methodological and analytical approaches to address public health research questions. 3. examine ethical principles pertaining to the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of public health data. 4. effectively defend research methodology and findings through concise scientific writing and oral presentations. 5. manage and analyze data using classic and modern approaches appropriate for various study designs using software packages such as SAS, R, STATA, SPlus, and WinBUGS. 6. formulate appropriate sampling strategies. 7. design and evaluate psychometric properties of health surveys.
