PAS 760 - Elective Clerkship (5 units) In this course, second-year PA students are given the opportunity to choose a one-month medical experience. Commonly requested electives include internal medicine and surgical subspecialties.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Internship/Practicum: 5 Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. apply knowledge and skills learned throughout the didactic year to demonstrate competency in advanced elicitation of history, communication, physical examination, and critical thinking skills. 2. identify health risks, community resources, and referral patterns for the population served by the specific elective in the clinical setting. 3. gather information, formulate differential diagnoses, and propose plans for the initial evaluation and management of patients within the scope of the chosen elective. 4. recognize medical or surgical conditions commonly seen in the chosen elective that require specialized evaluation and management outside of the primary care setting. 5. articulate how the role of PAs in the chosen elective has improved the delivery and access of care to patients of the practice.
