PAS 644 - PA Role Development IV (1 unit) This course is designed to help first year PA students make the transition into their new roles as PAs and provide background on the PA role and profession. The content of this courses in the series focuses on the medico-legal issues surrounding PA practice.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 1 Offered: Every Summer
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. explain of the PA licensure regulations pertaining to PAs and how to access information about the laws and regulations that affect PA practice. 2. analyze risk management programs and how they improve patient safety and reduce medical errors. 3. describe how impaired providers impact patients and work environments. 4. integrate OSHA, HAZMAT and DOT regulations and other safety strategies into working in the health care setting. 5. communicate a successful patient hand-off using I-PASS or SBAR. 6. outline strategies for continuous quality improvement in the health care setting. 7. outline the composition and responsibilities of the healthcare team and the role of the PA student in the clinical setting. 8. apply billing and coding rules and regulations to various clinical encounters.
