MUS 711 - Topics in Seventeenth and Eighteenth Century Music

Western music cultures of the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries with an emphasis toward understanding how musical meanings and values are created in a cultural context. There is a significant writing and participation component to this class.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. analyze the variety of social, cultural, migrational, ethnic, and gendered contexts that inform music of the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries.
2. speak and write about music with theoretical knowledge and analytical sophistication.
3. apply their knowledge of music history to their area of specialization.
