NURS 467 - Informatics, Technology, & Health Policy (3 units) This course examines healthcare issues within a societal context, applying science and technology toward ethical solutions.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Accelerated Second Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ASBN) Program.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Summer
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. examine the effects of healthcare policy on nursing practice and the healthcare system at large. 2. incorporate application of information management and technology to enhance communication with the interdisciplinary team. 3. examine ethical standards related to data security, regulatory requirements, confidentiality, and a patient’s right to privacy. 4. integrate knowledge and skills in leadership, quality improvement, healthcare policy and patient safety to provide high quality care. 5. demonstrate basic knowledge of healthcare policy, finance, and regulatory environments, including local, state, national, and global healthcare trends. 6. compare the advantages and disadvantages of health care technologies on the evolution of healthcare delivery and policy. 7. identify and address healthcare policy issues affecting vulnerable populations.
