ENG 677C - Genre Studies in Film (3 units) Studies the generic conventions and approaches of specific cinematic genres such as horror, action, suspense, science fiction, film noir, romantic comedy, gangster, avant-garde, documentary, or the western.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. apply critical thinking skills to issues related to film genres. 2. identify and apply, in discussion and/or writing, appropriate methods or theories to cinematic texts. 3. situate the specialized topic in its appropriate historical, cultural, and political contexts. 4. apply their knowledge of film genre to their area of specialization.
